Emily Deschanel began her career during her senior year of high school when she was cast in the comedy drama It Could Happen to You, which starred Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda. Initially she used the role to see if she can make it to the entertainment scene, and it did bring out her knack for acting. After studying college, Emily Deschanel pursued more acting jobs and landed on a small part in the 2000 flick It’s a Shame About Ray. Her character wasn’t noticed by the audiences yet, so she tried her luck in the world of television instead.

In the year 2002, Emily Deschanel became part in the mini series Rose Red, created by Stephen King. This can be credited as her breakthrough role, as she became known to the audiences as Pam Asbury. Through the miniseries, she became a highly respected actress and soon was cast in the series Law & Order. She also appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Providence.

After playing bit roles in two movies, Emily Deschanel returned to the film business in the movie Cold Mountain in 2003. The film allowed her to work with the big names such as Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger and Jude Law. This was followed by two more films in 2004, Spider-Man 2 and The Alamo, where she starred alongside Tobey Maguire, Billy Bob Thornton, Dennis Quaid, and Kirsten Dunst.

In 2004, Interview magazine recognized Emily Deschanel’s acting and featured her as among the 6 Actors to Watch in its “Young Hollywood” issue.

Perhaps her first starring role is in the 2005 horror classic Boogeyman. Emily Deschanel starred alongside Barry Watson of the family drama series 7th Heaven. While the movie didn’t receive rave reviews, it did boost Emily Deschanel’s career to greater heights.

Emily Deschanel returned to the small screen and in 2005, she found herself in a good role with the TV series, Bones, where she plays the role of a forensic anthropologist opposite David Boreanaz. Bones is one of today’s top rated shows on primetime TV, thus making Emily Deschanel a bankable star.
